Yankees Finally Clinch

The Yankees finally clinched a playoff birth on Wednesday. They should have clinched a long time ago, but recently have been having trouble. They have not been playing good baseball of late. All they have needed was a Yankees win or a tigers lost. No granted this kind of clinh is not what the Yankees wanted. They really wanted to win the east title, but they will get in any way they can. Like the moto says, you have to be in it to win it.

The Yankees are now in the midst of one of the greatest streaks ever, this year will mark a 13Th strait trip to the postseason. The Yankees have won the AL east every year since 1998, but like i said before their in. This is where the Yankees do their damage except of recent years. The Yankees live in the post season.

What is very impressive is the way the Yankees have played since late may. The Yankees got off to one of their worst starts in franchise history. Alot of analyst counted the Yankees out of it very early on. And you cannot do that, because they are playing the game of baseball, and i should know. I played baseball for Cortland my freshman and sophomore year. Baseball is a very weird sport. It is about timing, can you do the things you need to do when it matters most, and the Yankees did that. When the games really started to matter, they did there best work. The Yankees have the best major league record since the All-star break.

I truly believe this is the year, if the Yankees don't at least make it to the world series i really think George Steinbrenner is really going to lose it. And you wonder what will happen to the Yankees next year. Only time will time, but like i said, baseball is a very weird game. On any given day the best team can lose to the worst team. That is why baseball;ll players need to show up to every game, and not take any opponent lightly.

Barry Bonds

Barry Bonds is finished in San Francisco. The Giants told Bonds they will not bring him back next season, ending a 15-year run with the giants. Barry broke the single-season and all-time home run records with the giants and became a lightning rod for the steroids debate in baseball. Bonds has told the media that he still has baseball in him. He plans on playing baseball somewhere next season.

Most analyst are predicting that bonds would be most suitable for an American league team where Barry could be the designated hitter. This would suit Barry the best, not having to worry about playing the field, and can focus on his hitting and trying to stay healthy, which has been bonds' biggest problem over the last five years. Alot of analyst think that Barry will end up with the angels, or mariners next season.

shadowed by steroid speculation for the past few years, Bonds has hit 28 homers this season, raising his career total to 762. These are the numbers that are persuading teams to pursue Barry bonds, to help revitalize any MLB franchise. Bonds still leads the major league in some important offense categories like walks and on-base percentage. This will appeal to most MLB teams. But will this be enough for teams to sign Barry, because Barry does come with alot of excess baggage. Only time will tell if any MLB team is willing to take the chance on the ever aging but still powerful Bonds.

New York Rangers and the NHL

i am a huge NHL fan, and a HUGE Rangers fan. they are my favorite team, and this Friday is there first pre-season game. The start of the NHL season starts in early October, and i can not wait. I love hockey, i grew up playing it, ever since i can remember.

What i really don't get is how people don't like hockey, it is such a fast moving, hard hitting game, i don't understand how anyone can not like it. What also gets me upset is how people talk about, hockey not being one of the major sports. This gets me very upset, i don't see how that could be possible, it has all the aspects of all the major sports. Hockey has some of the best fans in any sports. Just like myself. And i ma not ashamed to admit it. Like i said before, i am a huge rangers fan, i know everything there is to know about everything regarding the team.

Last year, was one the rangers greatest seasons in a long time. They made it to the second round of the eastern cup playoffs, and pretty much had the sabers beat, they just let it slip away. This year will be better for the rangers, with the additions of the two best free agents on the market, scott gomez and chris drury. Plus resigning many key players, such as king henrik lundqvist, veteran brendan shannahan, marty straka, marcel hossa, and newcomer sean avery. Nothing less of the Stanley cup will be a disappointment to me and the rangers.

I went to 6 rangers games last season, 5 games at the garden and one game in buffalo, i went to a regular season game in buffalo, i was the only person on the arena wearing a new york rangers jersey, i loved it. So everyone be prepared for the rangers season opener Oct,4Th, that's when it begins, the rangers quest for the cup.

T.O.

It's been quiet. It's been too quiet.
Here it is, the dawn of the 2007 NFL season and, honestly, has anyone heard so much as a peep out of Terrell Owens? T.O.'s mouth has been muzzled. That's a good thing for Owens and the Dallas Cowboys, who open their season as a trendy pick by many to contend for the NFC championship.
Could it be that Owens finally gets it? Or, once the lights turn on for real in the regular season, will the drama unfold like it typically does? Much of last year's "stories" involved Owens tense relationship with former head coach Bill Parcells. As for the Cowboys' new coach, Wade Phillips, Owens said the two are on the same page "as far as how to play the game."Is anyone on T.O.'s page?
This year, he said he is eyeing 100 receptions, 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns, pretty lofty goals, but he is healthy and more than capable of achieving. He seems at peace, and that's half the battle for Owens. Oh, T.O. feels very good about himself. His problems have mostly been with others in the game, not so much outside the lines, and he implied he doesn't get enough credit for staying out of trouble away from the game.
I thought it was funny hearing T.O. last year, i would just sit and watch, and that's what i think he wants when he puts on these shows. Because i am not a cowboys, it doesn't matter to me, so i just sat back and enjoyed listening to T.O. I hope he does it again this year.

SpyGate

The National Football League fined New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick $500,000 yesterday, and the team will forfeit its first-round draft pick in 2008 if it makes the playoffs, for violating league rules Sunday when a Patriots staff member was discovered videotaping signals by Jets coaches during the season opener at the Meadowlands. The Patriots will be fined $250,000. If they fail to make the playoffs, they will forfeit their second- and third-round picks in 2008.

It is the first time in league history a coach and franchise have been disciplined for videotaping, essentially spying on opponents. The Patriots are a team that has won three Super Bowls in six years and that until last week was considered a model of success. All the sports analyst are now talking about the reputation of the patriots being tainted, i don't think it should be, there is no evidence of the patriots doing any of this years ago, however i know they probably were but one cannot make that accusations.

This just makes my point even more, this is the only part of professional sports that i do not like, the cheating aspect, the win at all costs effect. This is not just geared to the patriots because i know for a fact that they are not the only team who does this, but hopefully this huge punishment will make other coach's realize that they should stop doing this.

That's why i prefer college sports for the most part, you do not have to worry about this cheating. The play from the heart, and i sure hope that this kind of activity is going on at the college level. I hope the rest of the league will now realize that the new commissioner will not stand for any of this action anymore. I think the penalty was good. People wanted the coach to be suspended but that would have not meant anything, because he would have influenced the team all long in practice anyways.

CPR

Right now i am taking health 120, responding to emergencies, it isn't really a tough class, except for one think. We just started learning about how to preform CPR. It seems like it is going to be very complicated. We were handed this really large and confusing flow chart in which to follow. There are all kinds of different avenues to take when dealing with a person who needs CPR. Their are many factors that one must look at.

It seems very confusing but I'm sure that i will get the hang of it with some practice and studying. There are difference between adults and infants. In a few weeks i am going to be tested on these skills. I will just walk into a certain scenario or situation and i will have to know what to do, and preform these talks correctly. I am a little nervous because the test is a pass/fail kind of thing, so i need to do good. There is a lot of information that i will need to review before that time comes, so hopefully i will be ready. I have a pretty cool professor so things should be OK, i hope.

There is a lot of responsibility when it comes to saving someones life, i was talking to my professor about it after class, and he said that most people wont even know what to do in an emergency because they are just in shock and the scene is hectic. So he said to remain calm and just try and remember what he is teaching us. And also not just to be a bystander, try and so something productive, if you don't know how to help, call for emergency services as quickly as you can. So we will see what happens. I give alot of props to emergency responders they need to know a lot of things and act quickly without panicking.

What Went Wrong for MIchigan

As i sat there watching week two of the Michigan football season i thought to myself what went wrong. For starters, Michigan couldn't stop ASU. The Mountaineers moved the ball at will, especially in the second quarter. I'd love to blame it on M's secondary, and that might have been the problem, but the Mountaineers had their running game. ASU's QB showed great mobility. Not only did he pull off some huge runs, but he created space and give himself time to throw the football.

While Michigan ran the ball well, Chad Henne struggled to complete passes. It wasn't a fateful second quarter, but getting outscored 21-3 in your own stadium isn't going to help matters much. Even when Mike Hart was running through gaping holes in the Appalachian State defense, Henne was a bit scattershot. Star receiver Mario Manningham had just 23 yards on the day before his big catch to set up the last-second field goal try.

Of course, special teams killed Michigan. The Wolverines came up empty on a pair of two-point conversion attempts, but that wasn't the biggest sin committed. Not one, but two fourth-quarter field goal attempts were blocked. The fateful final try wasn't even close, as the D-linemen flew through the Michigan line like he was shot out of a cannon. Once that happened, it was celebration time for the folks from Boone, North Carolina.

Thinking to myself after the week one loss, to be optimistic for the future thinking that we still had a chance to make it to a bowl game and possibily the rose bowl. Now i have come to the conclussion and accepted the fact that the Michigan Wolverine season is OVER, and i am ok with that. I will just be forced to watch alot more of the NFL.

Another steroid finding

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Troy Glaus declined to address questions that he received performance-enhancing drugs from a Florida pharmacy. Glaus, received multiple shipments of testosterone between summer of 2003, and spring of 2004.
There will never be an end to this topic in baseball history. Baseball is now considered the "steroid era" and will not soon change. It has been clear that so many players have used steroids in the past and continue to use them today. They have no shame in getting caught as you can tell with numerous reports. This era in baseball will always be questioned, all the records that have been surpassed will always be in question. The biggest record in baseball, the all time home run record was passed a few months ago, and could not of had much more controversy than it did.
All kinds of players use steroids, one would think that only the big power hitting, Mark Mcgwires would use steroids, but that is far from the truth, a majority of the penalized steroid users have been pitchers. Steroids will not just deliver power they are also used to help recovery time from injury, and to help promote wellness.
It seems to me that ever since the BALCO case a few years ago, the steroid issue has been unraveling ever since. That's why i truly believe BALCO was the main cause of this problem.
From what i understand steroids were used back in the day, but not even close to the extent at which it is now. But there is no way of knowing for sure, will just have to take the players word for it, which not for nothing but probably isn't a good thing.

Wolverine season over

The Michigan Wolverine season was over, before they even knew it. The first week of college football and already the 5th ranked Michigan my favorite college football team has a loss. This all but ends their run for a national championship. Most analyst do not even believe that the wolverines can even make it to the rose bowl.

As i watched the game on Saturday in disbelief that this team from double AA, Appalachian state was even competing with the nationally ranked fifth Michigan wolverines. Before the game even started i was thinking to myself it will be good for the wolverines to get a nice easy victory their first work. I was happy they were playing Appalachian state because it wouldn't be a tough game, especially during week one. knowing that week one is usually very sloppy and it enables everyone to get up to game speed. Never did i ever truly believe before the game started that they even had a chance against the wolverines. Not too mention that the game was at the BIG house in Ann Arbor. You wanna talk about a home field advantage, it is probably bigger than some professional sports teams.

As the game unfolded, play by play i just kept asking myself what was going on, how was this team competing with the wolverines. It just seemed like Appalachian state had someone in the Michigan huddle. Everything the wolverines did, Appalachian state had an answer for. The wolverines are filled with all Americans, and a Heisman trophy candidate not to mention a great coach, which is why i don't understand why everyone is talking about firing Lloyd Carr. All these years with him around and all of these winning seasons, and one loss, and everyone is going to jump off the bandwagon. Any case, the wolverines must win out the remainder of their games to try and get to the rose bowl. Michigan wasn't the only team to get upset this week, so i didn't feel too mad, it helped to see a few other ranked teams go down, it softened the blow.

Race for the Fedex Cup

This the year the PGA tour is trying a little something different. They have finally realized that the are the only sport that does not have playoffs at the end of their season. This year it is different, the last four tournaments are considered playoff tournaments. The top 70 of each tournament receive points called, Fed Ex points and the person who has the most FedEx points at the end of the four tournaments will be named the Fed ex cup winner for 2007.

Only the top 140 players in the world are invited into these playoff tournaments, this will make the field very interesting. We are already done with two of the four tournaments and as of right now Phil Mickelson is atop the leader board in FedEx CUP POINTS.

It only took the PGA tour about 90 years do develop these playoffs but i sure am glad that they did. Me being a big golf player and huge fan, i am very excited to see the outcome this year. Now i am not a typical golf fan, i don't really care too much for tiger woods, although he will be the greatest golfer to ever play the game. Just something about his personality that i don't happened to like very much.

Now a lot of people think that golf is boring to watch, but if you have ever played you wouldn't think that it is boring. You would actually enjoy watching like i do. And it is even better to play, i play at least two times a week during the summer and not to brag but I'm pretty good. Now a lot of people are turned off to golf, they think it is a slow game and boring, and most can't even keep score. But that is far from the truth, it is the most mentally tough sport there is, and i would argue that until the day i die.

Anyways, i am very excited for the next two weeks of golf, and excited to watch the first ever FedEx Cup, hopefully the race will exciting and someone will be able to give Tiger a run for his money.

College Athletics

After 4 months of mourning, Virginia Tech was ready to celebrate. It took a while for the Hokies to give their fans something to cheer about. Getting off to a sluggish start in what figures to be an emotionally charged season, Virginia Tech struggled to beat East Carolina 17-7 Saturday. The victims of April's campus massacre were honored in a warm pregame ceremony. This will probably be the biggest game in college football this year in my opinion, besides the national championship.

As i was watching the game, it made me think how much better college sports are than professional sports. Watching these kids play with so much emotion, they were so energized, both teams. That's what i like to see, people playing hard and playing hard because they want to, not because they have to. That's what gets me about professional athletes it is more like a business to them. Always winning and complaining about salary or practice or about being hurt like children. Don't get me wrong i still love professional sports, but sometimes i get angry by the way these athletes act.

College athletes for the most part play sports for no incentives besides themselves. I think that lacks in most professional athletes except for a select few. They don't have the same level of passion that college athletes do. Maybe if these pro athletes had some of their money, and endorsements taken away from them, they would be able to rekindle the passion they all had as high school and college athletes. Saturday got me excited for another season of college football. Every time i watch a college football game i know i will be seeing excitement and passion, not grown men acting like babies.

Pre-Season Football? For What?

I was watching my favorite football team , the Bengals, play one of their preseason game last week, when all i kept seeing was all of the Bengal starters keep going down. I had always wondered why they even bother taking the risk sending out starters. I understand that they everyone wants to get their timing up to game speed, but it seemed like every single play another starter went down. It was very pain full for me to watch the game, because all these players were getting hurt, and i just kept thinking to my self, the season getting worse and worse. Some big name players opt to not play in these pre season games, and I'm happy to see they are aware of the risk involved. Like LT, probably the best player in the NFL. He goes to camp and practice, but refuses to play in any pre season game.

With football being such a physical game, there is a risk of getting injured every time someone steps out onto the field. It happens to so many players, and so many teams are hurt because they lose key players for given periods of time. This is why i have always wondered if the NFL had ever given any thought to getting rid of the pre-season. I don't think it could ever happen, but i think it should be looked at carefully.

it took 3 injuries for the head coach Marvin Lewis to remove the majority of the starters from the ballgame. I would think that after one injury, he would not want top continue with the risk of the rest of his starters. So know i will have to sit through one more week of pre-season football, crossing my fingers and praying that no one else on the Bengals gets hurt, so we can make our run to the playoffs, behind Carson, rudi and ocho cinco.

Who Let the Dogs Out on Michael Vick?

For people to interject the race card into the dogfighting picture in defense of Vick is crazy. The federal court should give the maximum sentence permitted by law. To impose anything less would be a fiasco, regardless of the sentence coming from a plea agreement worked in part to Vick's ultimate advantage of what would be a loss before a jury and a longer sentence. If Vick did the crime, Vick does the time.

This crime Vick and posse committed was evil. As a professional sports figure he needs to behave. What a shame for all the kids who looked up to him, especially those who have dogs and puppies. Animal cruelty often represents deeper underlying issues, so who knows what Vick may have graduated to if he wouldn't have been caught doing this.

Who knows what the future holds for mike Vick, in regards to jail time and his NFL career, hopefully the justice system will work how it is suppose to. I am curious to see what will mike Vick to after his jail time, what will happen to his NFL career? I am very interested to see what will be announced in regards to Michael Vick's jail sentence and NFL career.

Has time run out for the yankees?

It is not a frequent feeling for most new york Yankees fans, and a lot more frequent for Boston Red Sox fans. But this August, feelings in the Bronx, are not about how the Yankees will be able to get past the dreaded angels, but in fact, if there will be any post season for the New York Yankees, the most legendary franchise in all of sports. About this time red sox fans are asking themselves why they bother trying top compete. And for the Yankees the post season is a given. Not this year, time is running out for the yanks and there is not sign of catching the sox. but deep down as a new york city native, i know the Yankee magic will somehow come alive and there will be a post season for the Yankees. The wild card is there for the taking, and even though i cant stand to not win the pennant, you have to be in it to win it. So as the yanks and the sox battle on throughout September, Yankee and sox fans will have to switch their roles, and will find themselves in a different situation then they have ever been in before.
