Pre-Season Football? For What?

I was watching my favorite football team , the Bengals, play one of their preseason game last week, when all i kept seeing was all of the Bengal starters keep going down. I had always wondered why they even bother taking the risk sending out starters. I understand that they everyone wants to get their timing up to game speed, but it seemed like every single play another starter went down. It was very pain full for me to watch the game, because all these players were getting hurt, and i just kept thinking to my self, the season getting worse and worse. Some big name players opt to not play in these pre season games, and I'm happy to see they are aware of the risk involved. Like LT, probably the best player in the NFL. He goes to camp and practice, but refuses to play in any pre season game.

With football being such a physical game, there is a risk of getting injured every time someone steps out onto the field. It happens to so many players, and so many teams are hurt because they lose key players for given periods of time. This is why i have always wondered if the NFL had ever given any thought to getting rid of the pre-season. I don't think it could ever happen, but i think it should be looked at carefully.

it took 3 injuries for the head coach Marvin Lewis to remove the majority of the starters from the ballgame. I would think that after one injury, he would not want top continue with the risk of the rest of his starters. So know i will have to sit through one more week of pre-season football, crossing my fingers and praying that no one else on the Bengals gets hurt, so we can make our run to the playoffs, behind Carson, rudi and ocho cinco.

I have to agree with you on the whole idea of preseason football. I see it as a waste of time and a huge risk for star players. It is really just a time for bench players, who will never see the field during the season, to get their money's worth. If they don't get rid of the preseason soon, then I see most teams just sitting the majority of their stars within the next few years. The time most teams leave their starters in has been decreasing steadily, so soon enough it may be gone altogether.
